Jacob's third solo studio album patiently weaves its way through folk, bluegrass, jazz, and flamenco. Traces of Windham Hill shine through on tracks like "Cypress" and "Water Clock" while "Caught in the Phrase" and "Day Owl" are reminiscent of French and Brazilian Jazz. The album pays homage to composers like Philip Glass ("Twin Rocks") and Erik Satie ("Flowers for Eurydice") all while maintaining an intimate, homegrown feel. Improvisation takes an equally important role in intricate guitar solos throughout as well as a largely improvised rendition of the American traditional "Shady Grove" and the entirely improvised piece "Cypress." Touches of steel guitar, vibes, and distant vocals broaden the emotional palette and give weight to the outstanding compositional and improvisational work in Water Clock.

Flake of the Wood

When Flowers Fall on the Rain

A bold and emotional work from the members of Indalo Wind. When Flowers Fall on the Rain  explores both the heartbreaking violence and disarming beauty of landscapes in continental Southeast Asia through a not-quite-ambient composition in three movements.

It features Jacob on guitars and synths, Eric Walter on flutes and percussion, and Steve Cleveland on Accordion. It also showcases Jacob's sampling and production.

With the generous support of fans,When Flowers Fall on the Rain  was able to raise $700 towards landmine relief in Southeast Asia.

Available on CD and for download at indalowind.bandcamp.com

"I like to put on Moonshadow Park and just let it take me wherever my imagination wants to roam.  The music is poetic, mysterious, evocative, and it also rocks!  I am occasionally reminded of Led Zeppelin, or Yo La Tengo, but Jacob draws from lots of streams — traditional acoustic music from all over the world, flamenco, rock'n'roll, prog rock, Bill Frisell, Ali Farka Toure, Jeff Beck, Pearl Jam, and beyond.  And he channels it all into his own inspired playing and composing and makes it his own. I think of this album as one piece, because it flows so beautifully, though there are 10 distinct tunes, and a diversity of styles, grooves, and instruments. I love hearing Jacob play (and playing with him in Indalo Wind).  On this album he continues on his impressive creative path as a composer, arranger, musician, and storyteller."

Surfing in the Rain

Surfing in the Rain began as a fundraiser for the Music for Everyone School in Siem Reap, Cambodia. With the help of many generous fans, I was able to contribute over $300 towards keeping the doors open at MES.

Founded in 2012 by Ponlok Shila, the school provides free music instruction for about 90 students of all ages from Siem Reap and the surrounding area. MES also offers free access to instruments such as ukuleles, guitars, violins, keyboards, and basses. I had the privilege to visit, teach, and play at MES with my father (indalowind.com) in March 2014. It was a joy to be a part of their musical community for the short time we were there. I hope you enjoy the music and continue to support music education wherever you are!
